Intuitive Intelligence Comes of Age November 5, 2009

In today’s world, we focus on the child’s natural core genius. Intuitive intelligence is part of children’s core genius. This natural intelligence can grow into a unique talent. Children with intuitive intelligences are ready to take their place in the world.  Our job is to assist them.

Intuitive intelligence is an essential part of the human mind, which includes our conscious processes and unconscious processes—thought perception, emotion, will, memory, and imagination. Intuitive intelligence involves nurturing self-awareness of the inner world, the outer world, and the connection between them.

Recognition for the intuitive mind with its way of discovery and knowing has advanced significantly in the last decades.

What started with Carl Jung’s concept that people have four primary paths for processing information has evolved into the intricacies of brain mapping in the field of neuroscience. We know how we learn, which part of the brain is involved and how to reprogram patterns that don’t work through the concept of neuroplasticity.

The renaissance of intuitive intelligence has arrived. Let’s trace the progress of intuition over the last several decades as it made its way into mainstream thought and awareness. Only recently has western, modern society accepted and found intuitive intelligence useful.

Intuitive Intelligences

Intuitive intelligence stands as an entity deserving recognition. Brain mapping using EEG topography found that creativity and intuition are associated with theta waves usually linked with daydreaming or fantasizing. Theta waves are calm states in which intellectual activity at the conscious level isn’t occurring. Children and adults with ADHD produce excessive theta waves.

Intuitive intelligence operates on gestalts or whole pieces of information and functions from our memory, not logic. Intuitive ability is finally recognized as the fuel behind innovation, creative thinking, inspiration and psychic experiences.

Let’s clarify terms:

§ Intuitive intelligence – a system of processing information from a gestalt that arrives spontaneously, beyond intellectually known information or evident thought. Every human has an intuitive processing system. Like any intelligence, different people will have varying degrees of strength.

§ Intuition – a talent or ability to grasp or understand spontaneous perception, feeling or information. This talent would be a strength of the intuitive intelligence range.

Like musical prodigies and math geniuses, children display their talents differently.

Intuitive children with highly tuned sensory perceptions display their gifts in what our cultures might think are unconventional ways. For example, how many parents are ready to believe that their children see ghosts or who, at a young age, have an entrepreneurial idea that could be successful?

Education, parenting and psychology professionals recognize that children have multiple intelligences, and intuitive intelligence is the new kid on the block. All intelligences exist on a continuum of normal to gifted. There are math prodigies, musical geniuses and intuitive psychics.

The children of today stretch and challenge our learning. Parents of intuitive children need first to commit to the role of parent. We have to direct expressions of inventive and creative thoughts, help empaths deal with emotional overwhelm and establish resilience, face fears of ghosts. Children with intuitive intelligence, challenged by cultural systems which do not know how to connect with or teach them, need permission to follow their personal path and optimize their talent. We can give that permission and model it for them by developing our intuitive parenting. .

5 Ways to Discover If Your Child Is Intuitive November 1, 2009

Every child has the capacity for high intuitive intelligence just as each could be a musical maestro or a mathematical genius. Intuition is a natural intelligence that all children possess. Intuitive development depends on the environment, parental support, and education. Some children are highly skilled or gifted in this talent in the same way that others have a talent for math, music, languages, or physical dexterity. By determining whether your child has high intuitive intelligence, you’ll find the clues to nurture her talent and help her use this to find her success in life.

Intuitive intelligence is one system of processing information from a gestalt that arrives spontaneously, beyond intellectually known information or evident thought. Every human has an intuitive processing system. Like any intelligence, different people will have varying degrees of strength.

Children’s intuitive intelligence manifests in different ways along a continuum of normal skills to gifted talents:

  1. Children who learn through feelings and process information kinesthetically. (Intuitive learning mode)
  2. Children who are creative and artistic and intuition drives their motivation. (Artistic drive for exploring and creating)
  3. Children whose intuitive intelligence is like a radar reading and empathizing with other people’s feelings. (Empathy and interpersonal skills)
  4. Children who have intuitive episodes like dreams or a flash of creative insight. (Deep insight, precognition)
  5. Children who are psychic. (Awareness of non-physical worlds through all senses or a specific sense.)

Intuition is the common denominator of these talents and, all children have the same intuitive capacities. Like musical prodigies, children display their talents differently.

Education, parenting, and psychology professionals recognize that intuitive intelligence is the new kid on the block. Parents who know how to spot intuitive intelligence may find an overlap of skill clusters.

  1. Creative and inspired artists – John always heard music in his head, and at age five, his teacher referred him for psychological testing because he hummed all the time. John was also a daydreamer. His mother said no to psychological testing and found a school that supported John’s musical creativity. By age 11, he was playing the music he heard in his head when he wasn’t in school. Music absorbed his attention and poured from his soul. When others worried about his social skills and his lack of other interests, he stuck to his creativity, and it paid off. John’s dream of playing in a band came true in high school and continued through his adult years.
  2. Sensitive and empathic feelers – Eleven-year-old Laurie was crying silently. She had just finished reading the book, The Yearling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. The story portrayed the life of a boy named Jody Baxter, a solitary soul who developed a friendship with a deer. Her dad sat on the corner of her bed, ready to listen. Laurie discussed her sadness from the book, which reminded her of a classmate who was sad because his brother, a Marine, had died recently in the Middle East. “I feel it all here, Dad.” Laurie pressed her heart like she was holding her emotions inside.
  3. Talents involving inner psychic awareness  – Preschool children have invisible friends. Psychic teens may experience deja-vus, like they been somewhere before. Some children experience strong dreams that feel real to them, and some children see and speak with angels who are their friends or guides.

Our kids need our support and you, the parent, are the only one who knows how to interpret your intuitive experiences or those of your children. Knowing the challenges faced by the intuitive child enables parents to discuss, plan and help with personality and skill development.

I found this piece on the Internet which every parent wants to read to understand that the fight to take mercury out of vaccines in STILL going on. Not only are all children highly affected by the mercury, but especially those with sensitive nervous systems like intuitive and psychic kids. Now the vaccine is recommended for pregnant moms as well even though the effects of mercury on one’s health can be devastating. I know this from personal experience. It was 1960. Jessica was nine years old and Rusty was ten. His family was Baptist and hers was Catholic. When his family moved into the neighborhood, Rusty became the youngest member of the thirteen boys in the neighborhood gang. One Saturday afternoon, the two girls of the neighborhood were walking home from the movie theater. Jessica said goodbye to her friend and headed home to help her mother.

Some of the neighborhood boys grabbed Jessica by the arms, held her, and threw a coarse rope around her neck. It happened so fast, she offered no resistance, and she pushed her hands between the rope and her neck to keep from choking.

The boys pulled her down the alley behind the houses. Jessica was tripping over her own feet, and fell several times, bruising her knees. She dared not cry for fear of what they would do to her. She couldn’t speak; she could barely breathe.

Finally they shoved her into her back yard. They pulled the rope taught until she turned red and tears streamed down her face. Mortified, embarrassed, hurt, and dying to run away, she wondered where her mother was. May be she was looking out a window and would come and rescue her any moment. Mom?  Her mother never came. Jessica knew the utter feeling of helplessness at the hands of these young bullies.

Finally they all ran away. Jessica lay on the grass and looked up at passing clouds until she could quit sobbing and breathe again and her trembling would stop. She felt a hand touch her hand. She looked over and Rusty was sitting cross-legged beside her. He was crying too.

“I am so sorry. I didn’t want to do it. I couldn’t stop it. They are bigger than me, and so mean today. I want to be your friend, and I never want you to hurt again. I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean it……..” The rest of Rusty’s words were unintelligible through his tears.

Jessica squeezed his hand. She couldn’t say anything yet. And they understood each other. She forgave him, grateful for the offer of friendship.

Feelings carry us beyond the known dimension of space and time into other worldly experiences. We experience spirit in the wholeness of the brain and body. Spirit, brain and body are inseparable.

Twenty men and women from the United States were in ritual ceremony around a campfire in the Nazca Desert of Peru. Their teacher, a shaman, chanted while the rest of us drummed in a rhythmic movement and entered altered states of consciousness. Deeply relaxed and with chills of energy flowing through my body, I stepped into the imaginary circle around the fire and became an eagle that flew overhead.

Anna was attending a religious service in observance of Christmas. She loved the music, and she sang with an open and passionate heart. The music filled her with such deep peace that she closed her eyes and floated in feeling of rapture.

Joe, an alcoholic, has finally had enough. Drunk and dirty, he fell to his knees on a cold sidewalk in the middle of downtown Baltimore. He didn’t feel the cold because he was too numb. Negative voices named guilt and shame hammered in his head, “You are no good. Give it up. You don’t deserve to live. You’re nothing but a drunken sot….”

“All right!” he cried. “Good Lord, take me out or clean me up. I cannot live like this anymore.” Anyone looking at Joe saw a white cone of Light grow around him and engulf his head. He closed his eyes and sobbed deep heavy pangs of grief. The Light stayed with Joe when he fell asleep on the sidewalk. Many would think he had fallen into a drunken stupor that lasted for hours.

When Joe woke up, he had a clear mind and a single purpose. He walked with confidence into a local church and knelt down. With the deepest humility and gratitude for his life that few of us know, he said, “My Lord, you saved me. I will never take another drink as long as I live. Thank you. For the rest of my life, I will help others like me find you. And he did.

Three different people enter altered states of consciousness and experience rapture, have a peak moment. In pain or prayer, we get there, and these experiences are real and we record them as memories in our brain and body.

We know and experience spirituality through our feelings. Neurobiologists conducted recent experiments using brain imaging technology to record the biochemistry of transcendent experiences. These types of experiences register highest in the limbic system. This part of the brain is associated with emotions, feelings, and motivation.

To recall our experience of spirit, we only need recall these feelings. There is every reason to believe that, to some degree, spirituality is hard-wired into the human nervous system. We are part of something much greater than ourselves, something awe inspiring and humbling; we need spirituality for our spiritual selves much as we need oxygen for our biological selves … to live!

Today, it seems our children’s lives consist of spending time at school, joining in adult play such organized sports or other organized activities, or passively watching television. What is missing is unstructured time, the time children need to mature and develop their own unique expression and understanding. Only when children interact with the world on their own terms, rather than experiencing everything through the goals and attitudes of parents and educators, will they discover who they are in an intimate, personal way.

How often have you heard, “I’m bored? There’s nothing to do.” How often have you replied, “Go outside and play. Go watch television. Find something to do.”  Next time you hear that boredom complaint, say this, “Great. Wonderful. Take some space.”

“Space” is one of the best ways to allow the mind and body to integrate and find peace.
We can provide a space for our children to relax, reflect, or empty their mind. You may call it ‘take a breather,’ ‘time-out,’ ‘peace and quiet,’ ‘doing nothing,’ or being.

We use the term space to describe a state that is empty of expectations, conditions, and outcomes.  Having space is having unstructured time. Children and adults have difficulty with this. Unstructured time and space are challenging because we are used to the responsibilities of a skillful job or homework where the rules of how to use time are spelled out.

If we can teach children and ourselves to use unstructured time and space creatively, we can discover our beauty and unconditional worthiness.  Do your children know how to do nothing? Can they discover the precious instants of revelation hidden in moments of stillness and silence?

We need to provide this space for our children if they are ever to manage wholeness and integration along the stress continuum. It is a space where they are in charge and not stimulated by anything external to themselves. The space of their inner worlds inspires music and poetry. A child can learn confidence as a co-creator with life.

We often forget that life is creation unfolding. We create cells and tissues out of the energies found in the chemistry of the plant, animal, and mineral kingdoms. We create thoughts, words, and ideas from the limitless field of our experiences. We grasp life through the creative action of our senses and the endless searching of our hearts. Children need time to explore creation and the space to create.

Children create a world of events and experiences out of a space that unfolds as it continues to reveal itself, rather than beginning from a set of predetermined goals. Creativity is the world of the child- the child that we are responsible for raising, and the child we are responsible for preserving and nurturing in ourselves.

Spirituality reflects the simplicity of the heart. Our careers and our friends are all symbols that represent simple desires and needs of the spirit. What we want out of life is the experience of unconditional love, feeling secure about our unique visions, being affirmed, being forgiven and accepted despite our mistakes. We want to feel worthy without having to prove anything to anybody, even when we feel overwhelmed and powerless. We want this and our children want this.

Raising Intuitive Children helps parents understand an intuitive child’s world. More than that, it shows parents how to validate, not suppress, these intuitive abilities. The stakes are high. If their intuitive abilities get dismissed, intuitive children can lose their way, their joy, and their spirit.

Homeschooling Is A Strong Option for Psychic Kids June 17, 2009

Do you see this scenario? James parents were caught off guard when his teacher called one to say she had recommended that James see the school psychologist for testing and the possibility of being referred for medication. James’ teacher overheard a conversation between James and two of his buddies about James’ talking to a ghost. The television show Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal sparked the children’s interests

Eight year-old James reported to his parents that he has seen ghosts since he was about three years old. His parents remember their young son’s imaginary friends and knew such friends were normal for their child. Accepted by the family, James talked to his parents about the times he saw a spirit of a child and talked to his deceased grandpa. Because his parents accepted James’ psychic sensitivities, they didn’t think to speak about it in communities outside of their family circle. The teacher’s actions which could label their child and push him into a direction of medical supervision was not acceptable. The situation with the teacher sent red flags flying!

James’ parents chose home schooling as an option for their son. Would you do the same?
USA Today  published an update yesterday (http://www.usatoday.com/news/education/2009-05-28-homeschooling_N.htm) on the current profile of families who choose to home-school their children.
•3.9% of white families home-school, up from 2% in 1999.

•6.8% of college-educated parents home-school, up from 4.9% in 1999.

Reasons for homeschooling used to be to provide better character and moral development or better academic preparation and performance. However, now families also believe that their children thrive better socially by mixing with children of all ages and participating in social events through the home-schooling networks.

The increase of bullying in schools as well as more aggressive behavior from peer groups may influence why parents are home-schooling more girls. The current ratio of girls to boys in homeschooling is 58% to 42%.

Parents of psychic children may find homeschooling an option like James’ parents did.
